The Aussie Millions, known for being Australia's most significant and highly anticipated offline poker series, has experienced a hiatus since its last tournament in January 2020. This pause in activity was primarily due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, which brought about unprecedented challenges and restrictions worldwide. Additionally, the series faced complications due to ongoing criminal investigations into Crown Melbourne, the prestigious venue that has long been the home for these celebrated tournaments.
But the situation seems to be improving. This week, the owners of Crown Melbourne announced their intention to resume weekly poker tournaments.
"We'll start with weekly tournaments, but we'll continue to add over time. Our goal is to engage the player base and find out what they want so we can offer it to them," Daniel Trubiano, casino manager, commented.
The statement does not mention directly the Aussie Millions, but the fact that the organizers have not abandoned their biggest brand is beyond doubt. it should be reminded that at one time the winners of the Aussie Millions tournaments were such celebrities as: Bryn Kenney, John Juanda, Dan Shak, Nick Petrangelo, Erik Seidel, Phil Ivey, Steve O'Dwyer and many other famous poker players.
