Biographical Film about Doyle Brunson to be Released on Big Screens

Biographical film on Doyle Brunson

There is probably no more legendary name in the poker world than that of Doyle Brunson. A member of the Poker Hall of Fame, the owner of 10 WSOP bracelets, a writer and a real adventurer, he gained fame back in the 70s, when Texas Holdem was just gaining popularity. Now the world even began to celebrate a memory day of the legendary grinder.

It is not surprising that even before "Texas Dolly" died at the age of 89, films were already being made about his life. Currently, there are several documentaries in the works, but Justin Smith's project deserves special attention – it is a full-fledged biographical film, which will be released on the big screens.

Work on the biographical film began in May 2022, during Brunson's lifetime. After Radar Pictures bought the rights to the film, they began looking for a producer who would be the perfect fit to bring Doyle's amazing story to the screen. Fortunately, they decided on Justin Smith.

Poker player Justin Smith

Justin Smith retired from poker about seven years ago to pursue his dream of becoming a producer and screenwriter in Hollywood. During his poker career, he has collected millions of dollars in prize money in live tournaments and online.

"I played quite a lot with Doyle. I think we first met at the table when I was still 21. We played high stakes in Bobby's room, I enjoyed playing with him so much that I started doing it regularly for several years. So I knew something about him," says Justin.

Smith began work on the script in consultation with Brunson himself. After the death of the poker player, it was a matter of honor to finish the film: but first there was a delay due to the loss of communication with Doyle, and then the long strike of Hollywood screenwriters began. But at that time according to Justin, he was contacted by a very famous director who was interested in the film.

"It is sad that he will not be able to bask in the rays of fame and walk the red carpet during the premiere of the film about his own life. But I still have text messages between me and Doyle, and I know he really enjoyed the script,” Smith shared.

Justin believes that the upcoming film has every chance to become popular not only among players, but also among the general audience and inspire new people to join the world of poker. After all, when such a legendary person is at the center of the project, it is simply doomed to success.
