"D.Apollo777" Makes History with Double PLO Main Event Titles on WCOOP
What could be better than winning a prestigious title in the pot-limit Omaha Main Event of a major series against experienced opponents? The correct answer is to win two such titles in one day. And this is exactly what the famous online grinder Gruffudd Jones, known in the poker community under the nickname "d.apollo777", did.
Mr. Jones is one of the strongest players from the United Kingdom of Omaha, and his main discipline can be called heads-up PLO online cash games. He also does not miss important tournaments.
"d.apollo777" won his two titles in the most important events of the WCOOP series on Pokerstars:
- first in the 111-H tournament for $10,300
- second in the 111-M tournament for $1,050
The first, more expensive event collected only 77 registrations. Here, Jones needed only one entry to win. In the heads-up game, he made a deal with his opponent from Austria under the nickname "Imbajimbaa", but in the end he still managed to win and received 165 thousand dollars.
The second tournament, thanks to more accessible entrance, gathered more participants – 521 registrations. Here, the future champion had to enter the game three times, but in the end, this decision was definitely justified. It is worth noting that three top positions in this tournament were occupied by representatives of the United Kingdom – they completely dominated the game. Here, for his victory, Gruffudd received another 92 thousand dollars.
