Japanese player wins Sunday Million on PokerStars
On Sunday, PokerStars hosted one of its flagship tournaments – Sunday Million with a $ 109 buy-in and a $2 000 000 guaranteed prize pool. The event was carried out in the progressive knockout format, meaning that players received special rewards (bounty) on top of their prize money.
The event collected 20 466 entries, which made it possible to beat the claimed guarantee by $46 000. A total of 3 662 players entered the ITM zone, while the rest participants left with nothing.
A Japanese poker player with the "pekarinu7203" nickname managed to take first place. For 4 years, the Japanese have played more than 4 500 tournaments on PokerStars but his results were frankly poor. Until recently, he was in the red (-$5 000), but winning $111 000 at Sunday Million definitely helped redress that situation.
In the final heads-up, pekarinu7203 defeated a participant performing under the "Yura.tomsk" nickname. The tournament runner-up received $79 000 for second place, which is also an excellent achievement.
Two Brazilian players vied at the final table, but they were among the first to leave the game. Thus, "Elias30" and "aaurelio" finished the event in eighth (+$14 900) and seventh (+$14 500) place, respectively.
