Only Nine Players Left in WPT Prime Championship from Massive 10K+ Entry Field

WPT Prime Championship in Vegas

As many as 10,512 entries were made in one of the most prestigious tournaments of the WPT series called WPT Prime Championship, which made it possible to form a total prize pool of $10,196,640. This is almost twice as much as last year – 5,430 entries and $5,267,100 in prize money.

The event began on the seventh of December at the Wynn casino in the center of Las Vegas. What is interesting, the originally stated guarantee was only five million dollars. And thanks to the amazing turnout, it was possible to break it twice and set a record: the largest tournament in terms of the number of participants in history (if you do not take into account the World Series of Poker).

Last year, the same event was won by Steven Song, who recently won three Circuit rings in three weeks. Then he managed to defeat Lara Eisenberg in a heads-up.

"You have to run insane to win a 5,400-person field, there’s no getting around that."

Day three of tournament play has now ended, and there are only nine players left at the tables – the so-called unofficial final table. They have to meet again tomorrow and form the official six finalists. And then on December 19, after the break, the final table will take place and the main prize of $1,386,280 will find its owner.

At the moment, American Jon Glendinning has the biggest stack – 73 big blinds. It is worth noting that eight of the 9 finalists are Americans and only one is a foreigner – Valeriy Pak from Uzbekistan.
