Patrick Leonard loses SCOOP Leaderboard title

Patrick Leonard and SCOOP Leaderboard

The last days of the SCOOP 2021 series were best remembered for the rivalry between Patrick Leonard and Rinat Lyapin. The fight played out at the top of the overall leaderboard: $25 000 and a winner's trophy were at stake.

There was a 15-point gap between the poker players, and three ITMs in any tournament would be enough to get ahead. That’s why both "pads1161" and "ZapahZamazki" played a large number of events on the last game day. Rinat did not manage to achieve success, while Patrick came very close to entering the ITM zone of a short deck tournament, but was eliminated on the bubble.

Erroneous results from PokerStars

The next day, PokerStars announced the results, according to which Leonard became the leaderboard winner, followed by Rinat Lyapin. Patrick appealed to Stars with a request to recount the points, as he wanted everything to be fair.

The poker room's staff recalculated the points and noticed that they had added extra points to Leonard for some events. Thus, given the final results, Patrick moved from first place to the third one:

  1. Rinat "Zapahzamazki" Lyapin – 1 705 points ($25 000 and a trophy).
  2. "calvin7v" – 1 630 points.
  3. Patrick "pads1161" Leonard – 1 625 points.

Patrick congratulated Rinat but said that losing had broken his heart. Nevertheless, Leonard is glad that he set a good example for the future participants of the leaderboard – players should be always honest.

Award for being honest

Following the updated results, "pads1161" moved from first place to the third one in the overall leaderboard, and from first place to the second one in the high leaderboard. In spite of that, Stars decided to reward the poker player for his honesty. PokerStars issued Leonard $45 000 in prize money, which is the amount for first place prizes in both leaderboards.

In response, Patrick promised to donate the money to charity. That was the end of the story: everyone was happy, especially Rinat Lyapin, as he became the leaderboard winner.
