Phil Galfond wins heads-up challenge against ActionFreak

Galfond and ActionFreak

The heads-up battle between Phil Galfond and ActionFreak, which was held as part of the Galfond Сhallenge, came to the end. The RIO Poker owner again managed to outplay his rival and profitably complete the distance of 15 000 PLO (+€115 000).

Galfond's victory

It’s worth noting that ActionFreak won the last session, having played €123 000 back. However, this wasn’t good enough, as there was a big gap between him and Phil. On the last game day, ActionFreak pulled himself together and recouped a part of his losses.

In total, ActionFreak «impoverished» by €265 000 after the HU matches, since in addition to money lost during the sessions, he had to pay Galfond €150 000 (according to the terms of the challenge).

This win was not that epic compared to the confrontation against VeniVidi1993, but this time Phil was pretty confident at the table. Concurrently, Galfond is conducting the challenge against Bill Perkins. The guys have only played 1 000 hands so far, and Phil is ahead of Bill by €70 000.

Overall, the Galfond Challenge lasted for 20 days and took place at PartyPoker. Galfond was leading the race throughout almost the whole way, and eventually won the battle. It should be noted than the poker players played, using the Run it twice option, which is also important.

Who will be Galfond’s next rival?

Let us recall that the heads-up battle Galfond vs. Perkins is active just in words. They have not played for a long time, and it is unknown when the millionaire Perkins will be able to continue the confrontation.

Given this, one can assume that Galfond will not wait for Bill and start another challenge. The next opponent on Galfond’ list is Chance Kornuth, who can already start warming up and prepare for a «fight» with Phil. Who knows, maybe he will be able to defeat Galfond, after all…
