Phil Ivey and Gus Hansen Step Down to Micro-Limits for Fun Games with Fans

Phil Ivey and Gus Hansen at WPT Premier Meet-up Game

Last Friday, several dozen players watched Phil Ivey and Gus Hansen play at the $1/$3 and $2/$5 cash tables inside the Wynn Casino in Las Vegas. One may have thought that poker variance spares no one, so sometimes even the stars have to start all over again...

In fact, Ivey and Hansen stepped down to micro-limits for just one day, as part of the WPT Premier Meet-up Game event. These friendly cash games promised to be the return of the "Great Dane" to poker after a long break. In this way, the organizers of the famous series give fans the opportunity to play and chat with the celebrities at the same table.

Already from the very morning, the 28-table poker room was filled with WPT MUG participants, and dozens more players were on the waiting lists. In addition to playing with Phil and Gus, poker players had the opportunity to compete with Brad Owen, Ethan Yau and other high rollers.

During the game, Gus Hansen answered the main question of the day – does his presence mean a return to big poker? As it turned out, the 49-year-old poker player really misses the times when he was in the spotlight. But now he has a "different life", so he does not plan to return to the game on a permanent basis in the near future.

Gus also commented on his relationship with Phil Ivey:

"He's one of those guys I don't see often, because I've been traveling a lot lately, I have another son, and there was this thing like COVID. But he's one of those people that I really like to call my poker friend. So it's always nice to see him here," Hansen shared.

As for the results of the WPT Premier Meet-up Game, the main focus of this event has always been not about money, but about networking and the opportunity for fans to compete with celebrities. But there were also nice prizes: one of the participants in the cash game will take part in the WPT World Championship with a buy-in of $10,400 and a guarantee of 40,000,000, and five more received tickets to the WPT Prime Championship for $1,100.
