PokerStars Revives the Iconic "The Big Game" Show for Fans
In a riveting announcement for poker enthusiasts worldwide, PokerStars is relaunching the iconic "The Big Game". Recognized as one of the standout poker shows in televised history, The Big Game had previously aired for two captivating seasons back in 2010 and 2011. The unique format, which included the fascinating "Loose Cannon" qualifier, was a significant reason behind the show's immense popularity.
For those unfamiliar, it wasn’t just any regular poker show. While it predominantly featured elite professional poker players, the true essence of the show was the "Loose Cannon" feature. This was a qualifier, bankrolled to clash with the big names. Across a 150-hand session, if the "Loose Cannon" managed to survive, he had the right to retain all the profit accrued.
In a bid to kick off the revived show, PokerStars is organizing exclusive satellites on November 5th at NAPT Las Vegas. This initiative will allow players an opportunity to qualify for the show without any financial commitment.
The room promises to present 10 episodes, set to premiere in 2024. Fans can expect a mix of familiar poker celebrities and today's top players.
12 years ago, the star of this show was Nadya Magnus, who later became a true poker legend. In those days, satellite qualifiers also competed among themselves: whoever won the most received an additional prize, a $50,000 NAPT package. In the first season, retired bus driver Bob Ferdinand was the best (profit $181,500). In the second – Italian student Max Martinez ($163,200).
The show also gave many bright stories: a school math teacher, after winning $130,000, wept with happiness and folded AA preflop in one of the final hands. Doyle Brunson bluffed with T2o and Vanessa Selbst bluffed with any hands. A very young Lex Veldhuis exposed Daniel Negreanu's bluff in a very inconspicuous spot and is proud of it to this day.
