Triton Monte Carlo Celebrates Matthias Eibinger's Main Event Win
Looking at the final table of the Main Event of the Triton series in Monte Carlo, almost no one doubted that the Spanish Adrian Mateos would take the championship title. But sometimes in poker, even a huge chip leader stack does not guarantee the triumph, and so it happened this time.
The $125,000 Main tournament collected an impressive $16,875,000 in prize money thanks to 135 entries. 23 participants got to the ITM zone, and the minimum prizes were $198,000.
Adrian Mateos started the final table with 125 BB, when his opponents had only 19 to 32 big blinds in their stacks. But in the heads-up he was almost overtaken by Matthias Eibinger – according to the Austrian, he is comfortable playing with a short stack because he really likes grinding turbo SnG online.
The decisive duel began with a slight advantage of the Spaniard in chips (Mateos with 62 BB against Eibinger with 51 BB). After some swings in both directions, the poker players decided to make a deal, leaving $100,000 and championship trophy to play for.
As a result, Matthias Eibinger claimed the victory – in the deciding hand he won the coinflip with A♦️K♥️ against 10♠️10♣️. The champion received $3,461,261 in prize money, a trophy, a Jacob & Co watch and a two-day vacation on the Bombay yacht for himself and his friends.
