WPT World Championship Presented a Record $40,000,000 GTD Event
The World Poker Tour has announced a record $40,000,000 guarantee for its upcoming WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas. The $10,400 buy-in event, which runs from 12 to 21 December, will have one more starting flight than last year. At that time, 2,960 entries were made to the tournament, which made it possible to form a prize fund of more than $29,000,000, and to beat the announced guarantee of $15,000,000 almost twice.
"The WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas is ready to reach new heights, and we wanted to live up to those expectations by providing a guarantee unlike any other live poker tournament", – said WPT CEO Adam Pliska. "The journey into December begins now, and we look forward to giving players another unforgettable experience at Wynn Las Vegas".
It's worth noting that with the exception of the WSOP Main Event, never before in the history of poker has a $10,000 buy-in tournament drawn as many participants as needed to achieve this record-breaking guarantee. Collecting $40 million in one tournament may seem like an overly ambitious goal. But the organizers of the series are confident in their capabilities and that they will be able to achieve their goal.

Whether it is true or not, we will find out in December, when the tournament itself will be held. The winner of the last WPT World Championship was Eliot Hudon, who earned $4,100,000 in prize money at that time.
