WSOP Champion Abducted and Held for 35 Days by Criminal Gang
American poker professional and four-time World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) champion George Janssen was allegedly kidnapped and held captive for more than a month. Janssen, a former car dealership owner and poker player with career earnings of $440,763, is believed to have been the victim of a racketeering gang over the past two years.
Local media sources revealed a family member's account of Janssen's kidnapping. He was allegedly seized by several individuals and confined in a basement in the Toledo area for 35 days. Subsequently, he was moved to Harron County and abandoned, zip-tied inside a vehicle along a roadside. A passerby eventually spotted him, leading to police and ambulance services being alerted.
The kidnappers apparently were aware of Janssen's poker winnings and demanded a ransom of $500,000. George complied with their demands, which resulted in his release. Law enforcement officials have since escalated the case to the FBI for further investigation into the details of the incident. The federal agency has not disclosed any details about the ongoing investigation.
Sheriff Kelly Hanson from Huron County commented on the complexity of the case, noting the need for thorough examination to ascertain the facts surrounding the alleged abduction and extortion.
