WSOP Online 2023 Main Event Set a Record in the History of Poker
It seems that today poker is really experiencing its second wave of popularity, similar to the one caused by Chris Moneymaker's victory in the WSOP Main Event 20 years ago. The first sign of this fact was the record performance of the summer festival of the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, and the confirmation of the trend was its online version that ended a few days ago.
The fourth edition of WSOP Online took place from August 20 to October 3 at GGPoker. The main winner of the series was Belgian Bert "girafganger7" Stevens, who won the prestigious title and took home the top prize of $2,783,432. This money has already changed the life of Stevens, who until then lived and worked in fairly modest conditions.
Such a large prize for victory was the result of the fact that the WSOP Online 2023 Main Event set two records at once:
- record number of entries: 6,023 in 2023, against 5,803 in 2020;
- record prize pool: $28,609,252 in 2023, against $27,559,500 in 2020.
By the way, in terms of the size of the prize pool, the WSOP Online 2023 Main Event became also the largest tournament in the entire history of online poker.
