New Moneymaker: WSOP winner qualified for event for just $10
In 2020, World Series of Poker is held in online format. This gives unique opportunities for everyone to compete for the victory in bracelet events without leaving home. If we consider that there are still a lot of available Silk Road satellites, then we can say that the road is clear for amateurs.
Alek Stasiak proved this, and now he is called a new Moneymaker. The fact is that the Canadian player qualified for the bracelet event for just $10 and won it, by earning $343 000 and a gold bracelet.
From $10 to $343 000 in two steps
A lucky tournament for Alek Stasiak was $1 111 Every 1 For COVID Relief event. This tournament collected 2 323 entries that formed a prize pool of $2 580 000. However, not everyone paid $1 111 buy-in, some players got into it through $10 satellite, including Stasiak.
It is worth recalling that this tournament was supposed to end a week ago on the day of start of WSOP at GGPoker. The poker room wasn’t able to stand against a big influx of people on the first day, and it got stuck. Due to this, two of the three scheduled tournaments were postponed to Sunday.

Many famous poker players took part in the event, and two of them got closest to the final table:
- Adrian Mateos (19th place and $9 100)
- Niklas Astedt (17th place and $12 600)
The final table was a truly international. The players from different countries took part in it: Great Britain, India, Argentina, Mexico, Japan and Canada. In the final heads-up, the viewers were able to watch the battle between Argentina and Canada.
Alek Stasiak began his fight for the bracelet as an outsider, but soon the luck was on his side. He managed to double up and then he went on break with a 90% chip advantage.
After break, the fight continued, but the Argentinean had very small chances of winning. In the last hand of tournament, Stasiak went all-in with A-6 and Martin Ilobera called with pocket deuces. You can see in the screenshot what happened next:
