🎯 $500 to $5,000 PartyPoker Challenge — Day 3: Surviving the MTT Grind
Welcome back to Day 3 of the $500 to $5,000 PartyPoker Challenge!
If you play Multi-Table Tournaments, you know the drill: long sessions, big fields, deep runs, and brutal bubble spots. Days 1 and 2 gave us great momentum, but Day 3 served up a classic dose of tournament variance.
Here is a look at today's stats from the virtual felt:
📊 Day 3 Numbers
- MTTs Played: 14
- Total Buy-ins: $25.85
- Total Cashes: $14.98
- Daily Result: -$10.87
- Ending Bankroll: $618.00
✍️ Day 3 Recap: MTT Highs and Lows Firing a 14-tournament bullet slate was a solid grind today. We managed to make a few deep runs into the money to retrieve $14.98, but unfortunately couldn't convert those cashes into a major final table payoff.
A couple of classic flip losses late in the mid-stages and a cold deck on key bubble spots kept us from breaking into the top payouts. But that's the nature of MTTs—you survive the swing days so you can capitalize when the big final table run hits.
Despite taking a minor -$10.87 loss, the bankroll is holding strong at $618.00—still up +$118.00 overall from our $500 starting point!
💡 Key Takeaways & MTT Mindset
Focusing on EV, Not Short-Term Results: In 14-game sample sizes, variance dictates whether deep runs hit the top 3 or bust out in 15th. As long as the shove/fold and late-stage chip-ev decisions are accurate, the big scores will follow.
Strict ROI & Bankroll Protection: With a $618 bankroll, keeping our average buy-in disciplined ($1.80–$2.00 average buy-in across today's 14 events) gives us hundreds of buy-ins of runway to ride out downswings without stress.
🚀 Looking Ahead to Day 4
Tomorrow's plan:
Run a quick review on a couple of late-stage ICMR / bubble hands from today’s session.
Load up the next MTT slate on PartyPoker and hunt for that next Final Table run.

Great update thanks, as long as you are making the right plays it's just variance.
It might seem odd to the "feel" players, but for me it's all about the EV and pot odds in MTT's. I'll happily fold a mid tier pocket pair likes 7's or 8's if I know there is going to be 4 way all-in action pre-flop. Heads up against any of the hands I am usually a favourite, but when your 7's are suddenly drawing against 6 overcards with straights and flushes a possibility too, that equity is too diluted. Conversely if I am in position, receive clean folds to me and am short stacked with dog cards I may still shove, it depends on how deep we are and therefore the perceived fold equity. I've learnt early on in the MTT's there is no fold equity as at least one fish per table, they tend to stop biting or get wiped soon after the rebuys are stopped though. I'll also happily call with 6 3 off type trash if the pot odds state that it's long term profitable, did it from the bigs today, was costing me 0.2bb to get in a 3 way pot worth 3.4bb + antes at the end of late registration, I think r0ssii was in it, I missed, but long term I only have to hit more than 1 in 17 to be profitable(about 6% which in a 3 way pot any old dross will give you better equity).
Look forward to daily updates, even dropped in on your twitch briefly today too, keep it coming!
