A hand that played itself
Mid stages of a tournament. Nothing unusual. Stacks around 40bb.
Button opens. I defend the big blind with A♣ J♣.
Flop comes J♦ 8♠ 4♣. I check. He c-bets small. Standard spot. I call.
Turn is the 5♣. Now I pick up the nut flush draw with top pair. I check again. He bets bigger this time.
This is where ranges matter. His sizing puts pressure on medium hands, but it also leaves space for bluffs. I raise. Not huge - just enough to force decisions.
He tanks. Calls.
River brings the 2♣. Flush completes.
At that point the hand plays itself. I value bet. He pays it off with J-Q.
Simple hand. No drama. Just pressure in the right place and the right card at the end.
That’s usually how good sessions look. Quiet decisions stacking chips.
