Do you under simple pot odds
Do you understand simple pot odds ?
Hi Cardmates
I wanted to show pot odds in a simple way and ask if any of you understand and pay attention to them.
Here is a simple analogy to understand pot odds
As if you were buying fruit at a local market: Imagine you see a big mystery box that costs $20.
The vendor tells you: 'Most of the fruit inside is rotten, but there is one giant golden mango worth $100.
Before spending your money, you calculate your pot odds
(the price the market is giving you):
What you have to pay (The Bet):
$20 What you can win (The Pot): $100 Your pot odds are 5 to 1 ($100 / $20).
The market is offering to pay you 5 times your investment.
The Decision (Equity / Your Draw) Now, how do you know if it's a good deal?
You look inside and see there are exactly 5 mangoes left in total.
You know only one of them is the golden one. This means you have 1 chance to win vs. 4 chances to lose
A 20% chance of hitting the good mango, or 4 to 1 odds against you Conclusion The pot offers you 5 to 1.
Your real odds of losing are 4 to 1. Since the pot odds (5 to 1) are higher than your odds of losing (4 to 1), buying the box is a great investment.
In the long run, if you make this deal many times, you will make a lot of money. In poker, the price of the box is the call, the golden mango is the pot, and the mangoes left inside are the outs. If the price is right, you buy (call). If it's too expensive, you walk away (fold).
Hope to hear some of your thoughts
