HISTORIC VARIANCE

Hey everyone, I'm guessing some of you seasoned folks have comparable variance horror stories. I know some of you have lost more than ten buy-ins in a session, but here is how I lost my ten today. The unusual part is the large number of big hands I hit today.

In 1/3 NL Hold'em, I flopped 9 sets, all good on the flop.

I lost 8 of them (runner-runner quads, 3x runner-runner boats, 3x runner-runner four-flushes).

The other one I won, but didn't get paid because my opponent check-folded the flop.

Four times (!) I turned the nut flush and was rivered by a boat.

Dealt AA six times. I won twice preflop (+$4 and +$44 respectively), and the other four were cracked.

Dealt KK three times. Won one small pot, cracked twice.

Dealt QQ twice:

Folded to a preflop 5-bet once (villain showed KK).

Lost the other time to A9 on an AKTA3 board.

Dealt JJ twice:

Took it down preflop once.

Lost a small pot the other time.

Against a spazzy fish, I shoved AKs preflop for 200bb and was snapped by AJo, which cracked me.

I had a pair plus royal flush draw three times and lost all three:

Versus trips.

Versus a boat.

Versus a straight.

Two of my flopped straights were outdrawn, but two held. And yes, they were all the nut straight.

(Not included above: in dealer-change PLO single-board bomb pots, I flopped several sets, none of which were good. I got away from all but one. I also thought I won a bomb pot with a rivered top set when a player angrily slammed his hand down and declared that I had cracked his top two pair, but then some asshole pointed out that the dude actually had a straight before he could muck.)

I never open-limped. I fast-played except when playing certain opponents that reliably triple barrel whenever you check to them. I 3-bet or 4-bet all premiums, not to mention some other decent hands.

One time I hero-called a guy with ace-high and he showed quad jacks. This was the fourth high hand that I paid off.

I also won MANY pots, often with bluffs or top pair. At one point, I sold the dealer 80 $1 chips that I had acquired by winning so many small pots.

I am proud to have only lost $1,400.

What is your craziest session? Not just a few massive deep-stack suckouts, but a continuous onslaught of big hands that lost?
