Is Tilt Actually The Biggest Leak In Poker?

I genuinely think bad beats affect some players way more than they admit.

Obviously everyone gets frustrated after getting it in good and losing, especially deep in a tournament, but I’ve noticed some players never mentally recover after one brutal hand.

You’ll see someone playing completely solid for hours, then after one nasty river card they suddenly start shoving random hands, bluffing terrible spots or trying to “win it back” immediately.

The strange thing is poker is literally built around variance. Bad beats are guaranteed to happen if you play enough volume, yet they still completely change how some people play.

For me personally, I just try to remind myself that variance exists and if you’re consistently making statistically good decisions, the maths should catch up eventually. That mindset honestly helps a lot.

That being said… I still get annoyed sometimes 😂 I think it’s basically impossible not to after grinding for hours and watching AA lose to 72 offsuit or something ridiculous.

I honestly think handling bad beats properly is probably one of the biggest differences between decent players and genuinely good long term players.

Curious how other people deal with it because some players genuinely seem completely unfazed no matter what happens.
