Mates, what about chasing losses?
Hiiiii
In the n-year of my gambling journey, I faced what people usually call problem gambling behaviour. I saw many reminders of it on the web, but didn’t think it would catch me so unexpectedly.
It happened last week. Nothing boded trouble; I planned to start the usual slot gambling session with low stakes, just as I usually do. My budget that night was around £25, not more. Comfortable enough to turn the reels and get some wins, but not put oneself into the financial burden (oh, how naive I was.. 🤡).
It was not the worst day I ever had; I was just a bit upset. I made the first 10 spins, got nothing. Then I spun more and more. As you understand, no wins, however small, occurred. So the bonus rounds are out of the question.
I blamed everything on the high volatility of the Gladiator Legends. I switched to Wolf Run instead. In the blink of an eye, my balance almost reached £2,75. Something snapped inside.
£25 more was credited to my balance. In half an hour, I saw “Deposit Successful” pop-up on my screen (it was the first time the instant deposits were a problem).
I got more and more anxious with each loss. When I sobered up, I noticed spending over £100. And the worst thing was that I switched from enjoying the process to focusing on wins. Not the lost money disappointed me, but the person I became. The trust is that’s not the gambling style I want to reach.
Since that evening, any irritation for me is a red flag and a ⛔ sign. And of course, I set limits for depositing (just for instance).
I feel a bit awkward for being so honest and outright in a new environment. Hope no one will judge me here.
This post doesn’t claim to be the truth from an “expert.” But want to share a few recommendations based on my experience:
- Adjust the depositing limit for each session.
- Stop when you feel irritated.
- Slots shouldn’t always bring wins.
- Low stakes & low volatility is the best combo.
Thank you everyone, for reading my thoughts in this post 🙏 .
