My Pre-Game Ritual: Exorcising Adrenaline with Hypertrophy and Instant Coffee
The worst thing you can bring to the desk is nervous energy. Before I even boot up the client, my sole objective is to burn that energy to the ground so my brain can actually process information on a cold, analytical level. It requires a calculated exorcism.
I start by dropping to the floor. I grind out 30 to 40 reps with a slow tempo, fighting gravity inch by inch until my chest is entirely fried and my arms simply refuse to lock out. It forces a hard, undeniable physical reset. You cannot let variance rattle you or panic over a disciplined fold when your central nervous system is entirely preoccupied with oxygen debt and localized muscle fatigue.
Dragging myself up from the floor, I pivot to the kitchen for the second phase. I dump a heavy scoop of Peak Full Cream milk powder into a glass jar, add a splash of water, and shake it violently until it yields a thick, surprisingly perfect microfoam. I pour that over a heavy-handed dose of cheap instant coffee and whatever ice is left.
By the time I drop into my chair and wake up my ThinkPad, the metamorphosis is complete. When your heart rate has already peaked and flatlined before the first hand is even dealt, the rest of the game just moves in slow motion.
