Notes from Low Stakes Cash Games

Hi. My name’s Tom and I live in Watford, just outside London. I play online poker as a hobby and have no plans to turn it into a profession. For me it’s simply a way to unwind after work and everyday life.

I mainly specialise in online cash games, six-max No Limit Hold’em. That’s the format I enjoy most and the one I’ve spent the most time learning. I usually play low stakes, mostly NL10 and NL25, occasionally taking shots at NL50 when I’m running well and feel comfortable with the bankroll. I stick to a small number of tables and focus on solid, disciplined decisions rather than volume. My sessions are usually in the evenings when the house is quiet and I’ve got an hour or two to myself. No long grinds, no chasing losses, and no pressure to play if my head isn’t in the right place. I prefer a straightforward style and try to avoid unnecessary risks, especially at these limits where patience often pays off.

Over the years I’ve seen both sides of the game. Good runs where everything seems to click, and rough patches where it’s better to close the client and walk away. With time I’ve learned that, as a recreational player, mindset matters more than short-term results. If I play focused and stay calm, that’s a good session in my book. In this blog I’ll be writing from a regular player’s point of view. Thoughts on cash games at the lower limits, bankroll management, playing after a long workday, common mistakes amateurs make, tilt, and how to keep poker in its proper place. No big claims and no preaching. Just honest notes from someone who enjoys the game and keeps it in perspective.
