Patience pays off

A few months ago, I watched a player who couldn't resist chasing every draw. Anytime he picked up four cards to a flush or an open ended straight, he was ready to call, convinced the next card would save him. At first, he hit a couple of big hands and looked unstoppable.

As the session went on, though, things changed. He kept calling larger bets with weak draws, missed most of them, and watched his chip stack slowly disappear. Meanwhile, another player at the table folded similar hands without hesitation. He waited for the right opportunities, avoided unnecessary risks, and quietly built one of the biggest stacks at the table.

The difference wasn't luck, it was discipline.

The lesson is simple: not every draw is worth chasing. Good poker players know when the odds are against them and aren't afraid to fold. Staying patient and making smart decisions will earn you far more chips in the long run than hoping for the perfect river card.
