Protect Your Poker Bankroll - Tips Welcome!

Does anyone else have strict rules about keeping poker and casino funds separate?

I'm disappointed to admit this, but when I first started out in 2009, I'd treat every $20 deposit as if my life depended on it. I could spin it up to a few hundred / low thousands and play tournaments all month - putting myself in positions to win considerable sums, especially when a good series rolled around (think SCOOP/WCOOP in it's heyday). Sundays were the most exciting day of the week - dreaming of hitting a $50k+ score and taking the year off to grind professionally (or at least try!)

Over the years, my value of money had slowly diminished. Not because I got worse. But because the time and discipline it took, grouped together with the experience of hitting a slot bonus in 10 mins, off-set the feeling on winning money insanely fast.

What slowly started as a just small punts, started taking control. Dopamine addiction was real.

I remember winning £6k and upping the min bet, to the point losing £100-£200 in 100 spins in a mere matter of minutes was the norm.

My question therefore - has anyone experienced similar? (don't have to admit it in the comments) - but if so, any tips on how one regained control?

I'm not here saying gambling has ruined my life, far from it. But I just wish it never entered my brain. I was proud to be a winning poker player and stay disciplined. Yes, I chased the short high. I can't help but think of all those 'small sums' I punted when I could have stayed focus.

Anyways, to anyone else in a similar position - I hope you break it to.

And to anyone else debating it, just focus where you have an edge and enjoy the process.

Best of luck
