The Best Way To Improve At Poker? Discussing Hands ♠️
Should We Start Sharing More Hand Situations?
I think one of the best ways to improve at poker is by seeing how other players think through difficult spots, not just asking “what should I do here?”
A lot of the time after a hand, people are left wondering:
“Was that actually a good call?”
“Should I have folded?”
“Was that bluff too ambitious?” “Did I miss an obvious spot?”
But the real value isn’t just in getting a yes or no answer. It’s in understanding the thought process behind it - what information matters, what doesn’t, and how stronger players are breaking the hand down step by step.
That’s something I really like about how players like Mark Goone explain spots. It’s never just “do this”, it’s more about how to think in the situation so you can apply it to other hands as well.
The interesting thing about poker is that there’s rarely a single correct answer. Two good players can look at the same hand and come to completely different conclusions depending on how they interpret ranges, tendencies, etc.
I think if more hands were shared in that way, it would be a really good tool for improvement across the community, especially for players trying to move beyond just basic strategy.
Would people be interested in seeing more hand breakdowns focused on the thought process rather than just the action?
