The hand that teaches You more than Winning.
You don’t really remember most winning hands in poker. They come and go. What sticks are the ones where you had to think.
I was in a hand where I raised preflop, feeling pretty comfortable. Then the opponent 3-bet shoved over the top. I look down… nothing special. Just one of those “do I really want to risk this stack right now?” spots.
This is where poker stops being about cards and starts being about decisions.
You start asking yourself things like:
- What range is he really doing this with?
- Is he trying to protect a strong hand or just pushing me off mine?
- Am I folding too much here, or is this just a clean fold?
In that moment, it’s easy to focus only on your hand. But the better question is always: what story is the action telling?
Sometimes you make the call and run into the top of their range. Sometimes you fold and later realize you were actually ahead. That’s poker. The result never tells the full truth only the decision does.
The real edge comes from being honest about your choices, not emotional about outcomes. The hand ends, the chips move, but the thinking stays with you.
And over time, that’s what actually makes you better.
And distance every month with 100000 hands makes you better to;)
That's why it actually pays to be calm
