Things Dealers Notice About You (That You Think We Don’t)

Most players think the dealer is just there to deal cards and push chips.

Truth is… we’re watching everything.

After years behind the table, you start picking up on habits without even trying. The nervous ones, the confident ones, the ones about to lose control — it’s all there if you know what to look for.

And the funny part?

Most of the time, players have no idea how obvious it is.

The Nervous Beginner

You can spot them in seconds.

They hesitate before every decision.

They look around the table for reassurance.

They handle chips like they might break them.

It’s not a bad thing — everyone starts somewhere — but it stands out instantly.

I never needed to ask if someone was new. You just know before the first hand is even over.

The “I’ve Got a System” Guy

There’s always one.

They’ll talk about patterns, strategies, and how they’ve “figured it out.” At first, they seem confident — maybe even convincing.

But the more someone talked about their system, the more I knew one thing:

They were about to abandon it the second it stopped working.

Because when things go wrong, logic usually goes out the window.

The One About to Tilt

This is the most obvious shift — and once you’ve seen it, you can’t unsee it.

It starts small.

Shorter answers. Less conversation.

A change in breathing.

Then the bets start creeping up. Chips get pushed forward a bit harder. Decisions get quicker… but worse.

There’s always a moment where it flips.

Calm turns into frustration — and that’s where the real losses begin.

The Quiet Dangerous Player

Not every player stands out by being loud.

Some do the opposite.

They don’t say much.

They don’t react much.

They keep their bets consistent.

No big celebrations. No visible frustration.

The loud players get all the attention, but the quiet ones?

They’re usually the ones who actually know what they’re doing.

The Chaser

Every dealer knows this type.

They’ve just taken a hit — maybe a bad beat, maybe a few losses in a row — and now they want it back.

Immediately.

The bets go up. The pace picks up. The patience disappears.

At that point, it’s not even about the cards anymore. You can almost predict what’s coming next — not because of luck, but because of mindset.

Final Thoughts

At the end of the day, it’s not really about the cards.

It’s about control.

The players who lasted the longest weren’t the luckiest ones. They were the calmest. The most disciplined. The least emotional.

Because whether you realise it or not…

The way you carry yourself at the table says more than your hand ever will.

Great blog from the perspective of a dealer. Now you know the player types we want to hear of what you do to max exploit some of these player types? Confidence and self awareness sound critically linked here.
