What would You have done in this spot?
I played an interesting hand recently that I've been thinking about ever since, and I'd like to hear how others would have approached it. It was a six-handed cash game. I opened to 2.5BB with A ♠️ Q♠️ from the cutoff, and only the big blind called. The flop came J♦️8♣️3♠️. My opponent checked, I made a continuation bet of about half the pot, and they called without much hesitation. The turn was the 6♥️. After they checked again, I decided to check back because I wasn't sure if a second barrel would get better hands to fold. The river brought the 2♣️, and my opponent suddenly led out with a fairly large bet.
I spent a while thinking about it. They could easily have been value betting a jack, but there were also a few missed draws that might bluff in this spot. In the end, I folded, but I'm still not convinced it was the right decision. Looking back, I keep wondering whether I should have fired again on the turn or found a call on the river instead. How would you have played this hand?
Would you have taken a different line on the turn, or do you think folding the river is the standard play?
If you were playing online. (Which I assume) There's loads more factors to consider.
What has the previous hands been , were they low numbers. Face cards etc. playing online for pretty much 20+ years has shown me there is a bit of a pattern. Not a given , but couple of high face card flops in a row usually runs with a low card value flop.(Watch the cheeky A or K hitting the river)
Has your session had loads of aces hitting the board. Is it a red day or a black day (hearts and diamonds) (spades and clubs) etc. there's just lots your brain needs to think of.
I personally think you played that hand the exact same way I would have. No point losing chips on the high card hopes.
Worth seeing to the river especially when he checked the turn.
With that no hesitation call on your bet , he was probably strait drawing more than anything. 9 10, 10 Q.
You played the hand fine in my opinion. Always gutting having great hole cards and getting nothing from it
