888Poker - The good, the bad and the ugly
I'm going to try and be objective here but also keep it short and sweet. I intend to do something more in-depth when I hit the magical 100,000 hand mark, until then.....
The Good
I genuinely like the interface, the GUI is easy to navigate the table layout is straightforward, clean yet doesn't look primitive like some sites. The lobby is easy to navigate with all the key filters laid out (although a search bar would be nice).
The Bad
Whilst 888Poker have the most freerolls I think of any site, they are virtually all of the most toxic nature. 25bb starting stack, short levels, down to a short stack if don't see a hand in first 8 minutes etc. All of which leads to panic shoves/calls leading to multi way pots, suddenly your AA has gone from 85% equity heads up against any of the 3 callers to <28% equity. The inevitable happens, they flash up the rebuy window immediately and in a dark room somewhere, somebody rage clicks and shoves all-in next hand with air biscuits and a thirst for revenge. Not saying they incite action by rigging cards in any way, am saying the formats are toxic and do it for them.
The Ugly
How I have actually run on 888Poker over 8 weeks of play and what will be 1500 tournaments by close of the day. The yellow line is what I should have won based on my equity when I got my chips in, the green line is the cold reality. As you will note whilst my projected earnings still continue to rise my actual is dropping like a lead balloon.
As someone desperately trying to scratch a baseline bankroll together from 100% free play, it is rather disheartening to be bust out by the player you bust out 5 times, to a bad beat. Like they literally killed my tournament because I outplayed them hand upon hand. IMHO this needs to stop, if you bust someone out fine let them rebuy but stick them somewhere else.
I won 1.95 in the $1000 microbounty yesterday, I had to scartch for 2 hours to stay alive against donkeys. By the time the 2 hour plus late reg re-buy period ended I was in the bottom 5% of the field. But the minute that magic rebuy button was gone I tore through the field, from 300 and something into the top 20 in under 10 minutes, it's funny where peoples plums go the minute they can't buy another life.....
Yellow line what I should win based on equity when shove my chips in, green line what I actually win post runout. If that was pound notes, whilst ~100,000 in 4 weeks is okay you'd be a bit upset to know statistically speaking it should have been 1.3million yeah? Even the tax man isn't that greedy
