Basic Poker Rules Explained Simply

I was playing a poker tournament yesterday, this was a freeroll poker tournament and the rewards was quite attractive so lots of users got in without even knowing hiw to play the game. I was on a table with this guy that had zero idea on how poker is played.

He confessed to this cause everyone was on a live group call during the tournment. I had to like explained a little to him during gameplay but he still couldn't grasp the idea about it, I couldn't ask what cards he's holding cause there are other players on the table. At the end of the day he was exploited cause all he did was call even with bad hands.

This took me back to when I had no idea about poker also, I just sat at the table completely confused about what to do... the same mistake he did was also what I did, I didn't research about it before playing, I thought its gonna be a game I could grasp along the way.

The funny thing about poker is this…

At first glance, it looks complicated. Players throwing chips around, strange terms being used, people folding cards for no reason, it can feel impossible to understand. But once you're able to grasp the basics properly, you relize it's actually a very simple game.

That's all you need to get started, just the basics and nothing else. If you're new to poker, walk with me.

The real challenge isn’t learning the rules. It’s learning the people.

Poker is a game where players compete to make the best hand, or convince everyone else to fold before the showdown.

That’s it.

Every round starts with players receiving cards. Depending on the poker type, some cards stay hidden while others appear on the table for everyone to use.

You only have one goal which is simply to build the strongest hand possible using the available cards.

The basic hand rankings are what every beginner should learn first.

From strongest to weakest:

• Royal Flush

• Straight Flush

• Four of a Kind

• Full House

• Flush

• Straight

• Three of a Kind

• Two Pair

• One Pair

• High Card

At first, these names sound intimidating. But after a few games, they become simple to follow. Learn these basic rules first, then you can go ahead and research more on some strategies that can help you scale.

Don't go into a poker game without having any knowledge about it....
