From Losses to a Lucky River: My Poker Comeback Story

If I could recall....

I hit a rough patch last week

I made a post about how bad it is, losing a couple of bucks and the fact that I would pause my gameplay to avoid losing more money. It wasn’t easy but was necessary to avoid chasing more loses.

Fast forward to this week, things started to turn around. Losses from the previous week had made me reflected on my mistakes, reset my mindset and I've been able to make better decisions so far.

Last night was one of the big profits I made playing cashgame, unexpected and also a bit of luck on my side.... During gameplay I made a bad call and lost a lot of money from it, but instead of giving up at that moment I put in more money instead and kept on playing strategically.

After some couple of hands.... 

I don't actually know if other pokersites has this feature but there's this feature on Coinpoker that gives Splash rewards during cashgames tournament. It's a random reward they distribute to different tables and only the winner of that particular session can get the reward.

The splash came but this time around it was a mega splash, the reward was huge, players on the table wanted to have it for themselves.... We were 6 at the table and 3 already called all in, I hesitated for a moment cause I only had K◆ 7♠︎ knowing fuly well the other players might have Aces higher than mine but I called all in anyway. 

Then came the moment of truth, two other players had aces indeed

The flop came in....

A♥︎ 7♣︎ 3♥︎ 

At this point, I had alredy given up hope. Two players already have pairs of Ace while I only have a pair of 7.

The turn came in as 8... now the table has 

 A♥︎ 7♣︎ 3♥︎ 8♣︎

I was shivering at this point, regretting why I called the blind

Then the river came.... this time it was a K ♣︎, the table now has

A♥︎ 7♣︎ 3♥︎ 8♣︎ K♣︎

My one pair became two pairs which made me the winner instantly, my fear turned into excitement(what a lucky twist of faith). I didn't just win the call, but also the splash reward which made it a huge win.

Last week was bad, but this week was a success.... Moments like this are why poker is more than just game of cards but sometimes a tet of mindset. The losses taught me control and the win reminded me of patience. You don’t always get rewarded instantly, but when you stay conistent, things will surely go your way.
