From Zero Clue to First Fold: How I Accidentally Fell Into Poker

Have I ever shared how I started playing poker? Thinking back, it’s been about a year now and honestly, it wasn’t planned at all.

At the time, I was actively searching for new ways to make money online. That’s when I stumbled across a project hosting free online poker games, with rewards for winners. The idea of earning while playing caught my attention instantly, and I decided to give it a shot.

The funny part? I had absolutely no idea what I was getting into.

I joined my first game thinking it would be just another simple card game. But the moment I sat at the table, I was completely lost. All I could see were strange combinations of numbers and letters. Terms like “call,” “fold,” and “all-in” meant nothing to me. I didn’t understand the flow of the game, let alone the strategy behind it.

Still, I played anyway.

With zero knowledge and pure guesswork, I made a random decision to go all-in… and, unsurprisingly, I lost almost immediately.

But instead of discouraging me, that moment did the opposite, it sparked my curiosity.

I wanted to understand what just happened.

So, I started researching. I watched videos, read guides, and slowly began to grasp the basics of poker, how hands work, when to bet, and when to fold. After spending time learning and observing, things started to click.

That’s when the real journey began.

What started as confusion turned into curiosity, and eventually into a skill I could build on. Looking back now, that first loss wasn’t a failure but the beginning of everything.
