My Biggest Poker Lesson: Sometimes, Folding Is the Real Victory
You know, I used to think good poker players were the ones who made the biggest calls and never backed down from a challenge.
I was wrong.
One of the biggest lessons poker has taught me is that you don't have to win every pot to be a good player.
There was a time when I'd get attached to a hand simply because I'd already invested chips in it. I'd convice myself my opponent was bluffing, find excuses to call and sometimes ignore everything the betting action were telling me.
And when went wrong? I'd blame bad luck.
But here's what I've come to understand, poker isn't about proving you're right. It's about making the best decision with the info you have.
Sometimes that means folding a hand you really want to play... Sometimes it means walking away from a table when you're frustrated... And sometimes, the smartest move is simply accepting that you've been outplayed.
My biggest poker lesson? Protect your chips, control your emotions and never let your ego make decisions for you.
Very good advice, its something I think we learn but can also sometimes slip back to at times.....so its a constant battle to keep away from making these kind of ego based moves.
