The thing I’ve learned the most!
My Biggest Poker Lesson
I have been playing poker online for a couple of years now and in the early days I had a lot to learn about the complexity of the game.
You find yourself in every position with all those hand that light up your eyes and send the endorphins into overdrive. You know the one’s I am talking about the big pocket pair or the picture suited connectors and you get excited and bet big.
We do this not knowing what the poker gods have in store for us when those five cards are turned on the cloth……….
But why do we do this?
Is it because it’s………
- the best hand
- my lucky hand
- our time
- a guarantee
- fate
Whatever the process is we choose to justify our decision in that moment.
The fact is we have two cards in our hand and five cards to come with a big number of results possible.
Patients has to be the biggest lesson I’ve learned in poker so far. I used to play far to many hands which was my downfall.
I would find myself in the top ten within minutes of playing a tournament and be exited of the position was in. Ten minutes later I would be out and asking myself “what happened, I was set to make the final table!?”
Not over betting your hand until it is justified, then sitting back and let your opponents make the mistakes.
Once you find yourself in the top positions……..
- play fewer hands
- allow the hands to come to you
- bet big on what are facts!
It doesn’t often play out like this, but when it does and find yourself in those winning positions
What a thrill, you feel alive, untouchable and a great sense of accomplishment.
Little old you just seen of that number of people trying to achieve the same goal and you were victorious.
I leave you with this Cardmates, I have never achieved this without being patient and letting go of some big hands.
It can be the weakest hand that leaves the table victorious!
Do we have the patience to wait for big hands to come our way, or are waiting for the moment to let it go!?
