Tournament Determination

Not a big Win but felt good

Morning Cardmates,

I entered a $1.88 MicroMadness[hyper] tournament on GGPoker last night.

I pre registered for this tournament, the blinds raise to fast in these tournaments for me to late reg.

I made a good start winning a couple hands and built up a decent stack and then chose not to get involved with many hands.

I played a couple, but tried to only get involved and take down small pots to keep my position and stack where it was!

I find at these stages the challenge is not to be taking down monster pots, but to stay steady to make the ITM.

I managed to make the ITM and in a reasonable mid table position, soo was happy with my progress in the tournament so far.

Eventually I did get involved in a couple of wrong decisions and bad calls and was short stacked.

I sort of get a feeling when I know my time is up in a tournament, do you?

The next thing I analyse in this position………

Can I make it to the next pay jump?

So in this situation I am folding hands, taking my time and running down the clock.

I am getting close to the next pay jump and I’m on the button with A♥️2♦️

Now this is a hand generally I would avoid, but the cutoff just raises and I thought……..

” Your only doing that to bully me because I’m short stacked!”

l thought he had nothing so I called.

The flop came 9♠️ K♠️ 9♣️ he acted in haste and put me AI which told me he had hit nothing and I went all in with ace hi 🤯

A♣️ 8♣️was the turn and river, and my instinct was right he had nothing

I doubled up!

Next hand was A♥️ J♥️ and I went all in straight away, I thought just take the blinds and I will be in good position to make the pay jump and I did no one called

I should have just called because I would have flopped the nut flush!

But it did help me to make the next pay jump and those decisions that I made got me there!

Just a little insight to my game Cardmates!

I won’t make the Forbes rich list with it, but……….

I’m happy with it ♥️♠️♦️♣️

I love this and my biggest takeaway from this is some reinforcement therapy. Yes if you had limped the AJ suited you may have got action and the ghost runout says you'd have made the nuts, but the flip side is you could have limped got four callers the board paired on turn or river they made a full house or better and you got the Spanish archer "El Bow".  In MTT's there are very few spots were trapping pays off, you stick to raising up the big hands and shoving when short stacked. Unless you have a pre-primed thirsty for revenge yahoo isolated (like me shipping top pair tens into the dude with cowboys who bad beat me half a dozen hands earlier.....) 🤢

I really ought take my own advice, getting cute in that 20cent ticket I won with pocket aces, shipped the flop 56 off called all in with two pair ffs. I shove pre-flop they run away. Solid advice, I just thin I know better sometimes! Real rollercoaster, from short stack back to mid table to short stack then K9 taken for a walk by pocket 4's goodnight. I still say you should not call all ins with tier 3 pairs but what do I know!
