My Favourite Poker Strategy Tip: Know When to Fold!

If there's one important lesson poker has taught me, it's that you don't have to win every hand to become a good player. Sometimes, the smartest move you can make is simply to fold.

I know folding isn't exciting. We all love that feeling of outplaying our opponents.

But how many times have you held onto a hand just because you didn't want to lose the chips you'd already invested? I've definitely been there....

Don't Let Emotions Control Your Decisions

Imagine holding a decent hand when your opponent suddenly makes a huge raise. Your first instinct might be to call because you don't want to look weak.

But before making that decision, take a moment to think.

What could your opponent be holding? Does their betting pattern make sense? Are you calling because you believe you're ahead, or simply because you hate the idea of folding?

Learning to ask these questions can save you a lot of chips.

Folding doesn't mean you're scared. It means you're disciplined enough to know that there's always another hand to play.
