One Poker Tell I'll Never Ignore
Most live poker tells are overrated.
People spend hours studying shaky hands, breathing patterns, and whether someone looked left or right before betting.
But one thing I've noticed over the years is much simpler.
When a scary river card hits, especially one that completes a flush or obvious draw, pay attention to players who instantly fire a bet.
No hesitation, Just bet.
I've always found that interesting.
When people make a big hand, they usually take a moment. They're thinking about value. They're deciding how much they can get paid.
And when they have a strong hand that suddenly becomes vulnerable, they often pause too. They're reassessing the situation.
But bluffs?
Bluffs are often pre-planned.
The player already knows what they're going to do if that river card arrives. The card hits, and the chips are in the pot before you've barely had time to look at the board.
Of course, no tell is 100% reliable. Poker would be too easy if it was.
But if I had to choose between watching someone's hands shake and watching how quickly they react to a river card, I'm taking the timing tell every time.
It's in the timing, they make their decision
