WSOP Introduces Dealer Rating System for 2026 Series – Good Move or Bad Idea?
I was scrolling through the X timeline earlier this morning, then I stumbled on a post from WSOP bringing in a major change that is now a topic of debate in the poker community.
For the first time ever, players will be able to rate dealers during the tournament series, the purpose of this move is to reward top performing dealers and improve the experiences at the table.
Every Summer, hundreds of dealers are always hired from different part of the world to manage the tournament in las vegas. They work for long hours nonstop for nearly two months which makes them a core feature in keeping the game runing smoothly.
However, it seems many playrs have often complained about inconsistent dealing quality, particularly from less experienced staff. And To address those concerns, they have decided to launch a dealer feedback feature through the WSOP Live app. The same app players use for tournament registration and seating assignments will now allow them to score dealers after games.
According to WSOP commentator Jeff Platt, players can rate dealers on a scale of one to five stars. The system works similarly to ride-sharing apps where service providers are reviewed by customers. Dealers who consistently receive strong ratings may qualify for bonuses and could also earn opportunities to work at high-profile events, including the prestigious WSOP Main Event.
Personally, I think this feature would cause more damage than good to those dealers. Dealer makes a blunder, 8 people whip their phone out, shaming/embarrassing someone already very stressed. This seems cruel in a way to me.
We also have emotional players, after losing they can decide to abuse the feature to hurt dealers due to cold decks an bad bets. People tend to unfairly give fedback about the dealers based on how they’re running, not the actual merits of the dealer.
The best WSOP could have done is just to have a strict screening process, not putting the faith of the dealers in the hands of Players.
Although I haven't played a live poker yet, so I can't actually say....
What do you think about the feature ?
