Is Shaun Deeb the Next Hall of Fame Inductee?

Shaun Deeb poker

The eight-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet holder, Shaun Deeb, turned 40 on March 1, 2026. He now meets the "Chip Reese Rule" to become the Poker Hall of Fame member. But is he really worth it? Except for eight WSOP bracelets, Shaun’s track record includes many prestigious awards he has received throughout his 20-year career in online and live poker.

Will these help Shaun make the cut this year? Or he’ll join the waitlist alongside Antonio Esfandiari, Matt Savage, and other eligible candidates?

A Quick Look at Shaun Deeb's Track Record

Deeb’s interest in poker emerged in early childhood. He started to play games with peers at the age of 16. He made the path to the first WSOP event in just 3 years since his career started. In 2007, the guy cashed $67,000 in 4 events. WSOP 2009 brought him 5 successful finishes with a $44,000 in total.

But the first final table occurred in the 2011 #29 World Series of Poker. Deeb finished 4th that year and got as close to his first bracelet as never. He finally got it in the 2015 WSOP event. In addition to the bracelet, the player cashed $318,857.

After 2015, Shaun started a sequence of successful WSOP performances that brought him the next seven bracelets:

  • 2016: Took $111k in $1,500 Seven-Card Stud
  • 2018: Earned $1.4 million in $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller
  • 2018: Got $814k for his victory in $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em 6-Handed Championship
  • 2021: Showed his dominance in $25,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller with $1,25 million
  • 2023: Achieved the next milestone with $199k in $1,500 Eight-Game Mix 6-Handed
  • 2025: Got $2.9 million in $100,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller
  • 2025: Won €329k in €25,000 NLH GGMillion€ at WSOP Europe.

In both 2018 and 2025, Ahaun Deeb acquired the WSOP Player of the Year titles. As of 2026, Deeb and Daniel Negreanu are the only grinders in poker history to hold these titles twice.

As The Hendon Mob states, Shaun’s total of live tournament cashes has reached $17,4 million. His biggest live cash is $2,96 million.

What About Deeb’s Online Poker Results?

As soon as Shaun turned 18, he joined Pokerstars and started his online poker career under the “shaundeeb” nickname. 8 WSCOOP and 5 SCOOP titles under his belt prove he is worthy.

Shaun was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame in 2016. Will it wait for him with the Poker Hall of Fame in 2026?

Poker Player’s Public Image

Except for his achievements in poker, Shaun attracts the attention of the audience with his controversial public image. Deeb is constantly involved in scandals, feuds, and prop bets.

Shaun has changed his nickname on Twitter to “Markup Police” and called out players who seem to charge too high markup. Negreanu has defended some of Shaun’s «victims”. That resulted in long-term enmity between them.

Shaun Deeb is known for violating poker etiquette, namely, doing slowrolling – delaying showing the strong hand on purpose. This move has no strategic benefit for the player, thus considered a poor behaviour.

Shaun Deeb vs Other Hall of Fame Candidates

Shaun Deeb is among the eligible Poker Hall of Fame candidates for 2026.  However, he has several competitors, among which are Seiver, Galfond, Esfandiari, and Selbst. Which one has the greatest chances to be inducted this year? Let’s take a look at the track record of each player:

  • Scott Seiver. 2025 Hall of Fame nominee, had a very successful 2024 season. It ended with 3 WSOP bracelets (7 in total) and the POY award. Scott has been showing good performance over the last few years, which makes him the main competitor to Shaun.
  • Antonio Esfandiari. Antonio has been in the shortest since 2019, so his chances to join in 2026 aren’t average. Esfandiari’s biggest achievement happened at The Big One for One Drop in 2012, where he cashed a massive $18.3 million.
  • Vanessa Selbst. Although being the iconic name in female poker as the most successful player, Vanessa’s chances are fairly low. She officially retired from poker in 2018. Subs should either play regularly or make significant contributions to poker growth if not playing regularly. She collected $11.9 million cash in open events and is the only woman to collect 3 WSOP bracelets in them.
  • Phil Galfond. He was also one of the 2025 PHOF nominees. Galfond is a three-time WSOP bracelet winner and the legend of Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) poker. He established a training platform, Run It Once, which also brought him fame. It is a big contribution to the poker industry, making Galfond a prospective inductee.

Judging by the number of awards and titles, Deeb’s chances of becoming the 2026 PHOF inductee are pretty high. Only Scott Seiver, with his 7 bracelets and $27.4 million in total earnings, can stand up to the competition with Deeb. The harsh competition is expected this year, so Deeb may not be inducted on the first try, and that’s ok.

Will the Poker Hall of Fame 2026 Break Tradition Again?

As supposed by the Poker Hall of Fame rules, only one inductee is allowed per year. But 2025 has rewritten the rules. Nick Schulman was selected, bypassing Phil Galfond, Scott Seiver, and other legendary nominees.

But last year, the Poker Hall of Fame made an exception for Michael Mizrachi, who made the greatest achievement in poker. He was a champion of both the WSOP Main Event and the Poker Players Championship in the same year. So, WSOP made the decision to step back from tradition and enrol Michael. It was a phenomenal move, discussed everywhere.

‘The Markup Police’ has spent years judging the value of other grinders. Summer 2026 will show how the Hall of Fame values him. It’ll be interesting to see how the action unfolds this year. Will any other rule or tradition be broken? Who do you think deserves the Hall of Fame membership most: Shaun Deeb or someone else?
